Being young might not be a problem, but being a real estate agent is probably not a good idea now. I know one real estate agent that had to start selling cars to pay the bills, then on to another job.
The real estate market is not a good place to be right now. Especially for an agent. My sister in law who’s been listing and selling homes for 15 years, is looking for a part time job just to keep the money flowing. I’ve taken a job at another bank at half the pay, just because it pays more than unemployment.
If you can make it in this market, you will have a geat future. Go for it.
There is no pay check, it’s all commission. It takes a long time to establish yourself and you won’t make enough to live on for many years. You will need another source of income.
If someone is willing to support you, provide a car for you and pay your real estate fees for a few years you will be OK.
But honestly, most people with money to spend are not going to put their trust in an uneducated 18 year old kid.
You would be better graduating college first, then trying real estate.
One of the most successful brokers in my area started young, I believe he was 19. He was young, looks young, but spent a lot of time becoming knowledgeable in the market and could instill confidence in his clients that he could effectively represent them in a transaction. Now, he is I think 28, he owns his own brokerage, has a very nice building, and a plane. I think he is doing OK.
It’s all up to you.
