Was this bad service from the estate agent? Or am I being crabby?
Last week I agreed to move into a new flat, signed the tenacy agreement, paid my deposit etc etc. Before I signed the tenancy agreement, it was agreed that they would remove the old furniture (most of which was old and broken, or other people’s stuff, like an old matress for example). Today was my moving in date, and this is what happened in order of events:
1.10;00am.
I phoned ahead to the office to make sure that the place was prepared for me, which they said it was.
2.11:00am
I went to the office to get the keys, but the keys weren’t there, they were in a different office on the other side of London.
3. 12:30
Got the keys, went over to my new place. And found that the place had not been cleaned, and that someone had cleared out all of the tenant’s old food from the fridge and left it in black bin bags rotting in the middle of the floor, which had also made a huge puddle of old rotten food juice. They had also not taken out any of the old broken furniture. So I had to take a day off work, and hire a removals van for nothing. Am I expecting too much or is this bad service? This is also a high street name estate agency. What do you think?
Is this normal estate agent behaviour? Because I actually feel offended!!! What do you think? Is this bad service or am I expecting too much. This place isn’t like some crappy little bedsit, I was moving all my family over today and the place is costing my nearly £400 a week! What do you think?

If the agreement was that they would move out all the old stuff then they are in breach of contract assuming you can prove that, hope this was not just a verbal agreement or they will just deny it but in answer to your question yes this is bad service and you should complain long and hard because they will be hoping you just shrug your shoulders and forget it.
Don’t be offended because it isn’t personal. It’s crappy service, but they didn’t do it because they don’t like you. It’s a careless error on their part, but an error nonetheless.
Call them up, tell them what they did wrong and what you want them to do to remedy the situation. Accept nothing less than what you need to be made whole again.
Then forget about it because you’re going to have to continue to deal with them on a regular basis for as long as you live there. Don’t let this bad start color your relationship with them.
Hiya!
Sounds like their not doing there job to me! Perhaps you should remind them that word of mouth goes along way, and maybe they want to give you what you agreed.
I know its a bit intimadating but you don’t get anything in this world from being nice – (Unfortunately!)
Phoebs
It sounds like really bad service!! I would bad mouth them to everyone you know! Check what you signed, they have a right as the letting agents to have it ready for you. I can’t believe someone would move out and leave it in that state! food in the fridge, that’s just mingin! lol.
We rent, and i scrub the house from top to bottom when we leave, sometimes, even add a lick of paint! Let them know your not happy, you never know you may get something back as a gesture of good will.
