When working two jobs as a real estate agent what is a good first job?
I am working in property management and recently obtained my real estate license. My primary work week is Tuesday-Saturday and I work as a Realtor on Mondays. I know the market is slow, but I feel if I had a different primary job I could get more hours as a realtor and eventually do that full time. I’ve been conisidering teaching for a few years and wonder if that would be a wise decission. Is anyone out there a teacher who also does real estate? Is it possible to do both, or would I be creating more work for myself? My current job is 10-6 pm and I commute from an hour away.

ahh…friend. for your life, why don’t u need choose two jobs ?do you wanna get rich man or live a rich and comfortable life?

as for me, i choose one job..
Being a successfull Realtor is a FULL TIME JOB. I work 60+ hours a week.
Doing 2 jobs, means you are only putting 1/2 into each job. Which means you will fail in both.
Keep your teaching career as your primary job. You may do real estate as your 2nd job.
Real Estate is a job which need a few months to build up your presence in the district which you specialize in. You will need a few months of marketing before the potential sellers call you for inquiries.
People don’t list their properties with rookies or “New Kids On The Block.” The people in the neighbourhood need to see your face more often before the consider listing their properties with you. You will also need a salaried job to support your expenses such as transport, virtual office & advertising costs before your client base starts rolling up. Do not be trigger happy with the newspaper campaigns if not you will find you bill snowball to a large amount.
Anyway most of the viewings are carried out in the evenings as most buyers are also working during office hours. The only work which you need to do during office hours are making phone calls for appointments & compiling price analysis for listing presentation.
To succeed in Real Estate, my advises, do not treat it as a average door to door sales job. Treat it as a professional job where people consults you for your professional knowledge. Sales & knowledge can be trained but all of this begins with the right attitude.
When taking on a real estate career, you should enter RE timidly, and very much part time. If you find you can make it work, go for it.
It will be exceedingly difficult to work both jobs effectively.
